In his pre-match press conference earlier today, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta shared his thoughts on the team's recent success, the emergence of young talent, and the club's plans for the future.
Arteta began by discussing the fitness of key players, including Gabriel and Riccardo Calafiori, who might be available for the upcoming match against Everton. He stressed the importance of caution with Calafiori, who is still regaining his rhythm after a period on the sidelines.
The manager was full of praise for Myles Lewis-Skelly, the young star who impressed in Arsenal's 3-0 victory over Monaco. Arteta lauded Lewis-Skelly's maturity and intelligence, both on and off the pitch, and hinted that the youngster could be in contention for another start.
Arteta also reflected on the midfield trio of Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, and Martin Ødegaard. He expressed satisfaction with their performance against Monaco and suggested that fans could see the trio lining up together again soon.
However, much of the spotlight remained on Bukayo Saka, whose exceptional form continues to dazzle. When asked about the possibility of Saka moving into a more central position, Arteta explained that it would depend on the players surrounding him. He expressed a willingness to evolve Saka's role and explore new possibilities for the team.
Arteta also revisited last season's final-day win against Everton, describing the mixed emotions of pride and disappointment it evoked. He revealed that several players had immediately voiced their determination to push for the title again.
The gaffer also talked about the ongoing search for a permanent sporting director, confirming Jason Ayto as the interim appointee and assuring that the recruitment process was in progress.
Arteta emphasized Arsenal's unwavering commitment to nurturing young talent and creating pathways for academy players to succeed. He underscored the importance of making room in the squad for young players to develop and gain valuable experience.
