Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta claims the club will explore the possibility of signing a free agent until the end of the season.

Premier League football returns this weekend, with Arsenal traveling to face Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference earlier today, Mikel Arteta did not rule out dipping into the free-agent market.

"We'll explore every possible situation and make a decision from there," the Arsenal boss said.

While no top-tier players are currently available, there are a few notable names without a club.

Former Atlético Madrid and Chelsea striker Diego Costa is among them, having been released by Brazilian side Grêmio and yet to find a new team.

Ex-Arsenal players Carlos Vela and Lucas Pérez are also free agents.

However, perhaps the most intriguing option is Maxi Gómez. The 28-year-old was a prolific scorer during his time at Celta Vigo, where he was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal.

Time will tell whether the club opts to strengthen the squad by adding more attacking depth for the remainder of the season.

Another alternative is looking internally and giving some of the club's promising youngsters a chance to prove themselves.
